Did we all just watch a kid teleport on the BBC?
During an interview about Theresa May’s leadership earlier this week, a small child appeared to materialize out of thin air behind the interview subject, and people are confused.
Some joked that it was a glitch in the matrix, or part of a larger conspiracy.
I am confident (and afraid) we were *not* meant to see that.
— (((Duffy Bloom ن (@duffybloom) December 12, 2018
Others thought it was just unsettling, and turned to extremely British pop culture references to cope.
Did anyone else hear the Tardis vworping? No? Well…

A rip in the space time BBC CONtinuam.
— Benny Fitzscrounger (@fitzscrounger) December 13, 2018
But experienced video editors agreed that it isn’t some Tardis-induced blip in the fabric of time — it’s just a sloppy editing job.
The morphing effect, when done right, can seamlessly blend two clips. But it only works well if the subject is stationary. If the subject is moving, or if objects in the background are, then you end up with children fading into oblivion.
looks like that old school “morphing” effect to me. If you scrub back and forth over the edit you can see the edge of her glasses appear in a different place, and two of her upper teeth on the right hand side actually merge up from the bottom of her mouth!
— Ben Pitt (@robotduck) December 13, 2018
Yep. I’ve done similar, people disappearing in the background, or walking backwards. You get so focused on getting the main thing spot-on that you become blind to everything else, especially when you’re on a clock. Should have just masked it off.

With limited source material and tight deadline, it’s understandable that sometimes people slip up. The quest for proof of aliens and time travel continues!

YouTube’s official look back at 2018 is now the most disliked YouTube video of all time. And all it took was one week to hit that milestone.
officially premiered on the site on December 6. We reported just two days ago that at 7.7 million dislikes, or “thumbs down” votes, this year’s Rewind had officially become the on YouTube.
Since then, the video has racked up a total of 10.3 million dislikes, surpassing the previous most disliked video, to become the most disliked YouTube video ever.
To put things into perspective, Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video premiered on YouTube in February 2010. It took more than 8 years for Bieber’s music video to amass 9.8 million dislikes, a click on the thumbs down icon signaling a viewer’s distaste for a video. YouTube Rewind 2018 took about 8 days to surpass that number.
Bieber’s “Baby” long held the crown for most disliked video. But even though it’s carried that title since 2011, the video actually has more likes than dislikes. On this year’s YouTube rewind video, however, dislikes make up over 80 percent of the like-to-dislike amount. Only about two million users have signaled that they like the video.
Every year since 2010, YouTube has put together an official year in review video, an overview of the year’s most popular videos, moments, and creators. For many YouTube stars, the annual video functioned as an ode to the content creators who contributed most to the community that year. YouTube Rewind 2018 failed at doing that, according to many of the platform’s top creators.
One of the major issues with this year’s YouTube Rewind, according to prominent members of the YouTube community, is that some of the platform’s biggest stars, like PewDiePie, Shane Dawson, and Logan Paul are completely omitted from the video. Huge YouTube moments, like the popular livestreamed this past August, were also ignored.
But the crux of the matter goes beyond just individual YouTubers being left out of the company’s year in review. Popular YouTube creator Marques Brownlee, who was featured in this year’s YouTube Rewind, explained in a video of his own how there’s now a major disparity in how the YouTube community views Rewind and how YouTube the company views Rewind.
It basically boils down to advertising, as Brownlee points out. This year’s Rewind opted to boast about mainstream celebrities using the platform and traditional media outlets referencing YouTube memes as opposed to the controversial, and less advertiser-friendly, creators and moments that the YouTube community actually engages with.
By disliking the video more than any other on the entire platform, the YouTube community is sending a clear message to the company concerning the content they care about. In a way, YouTube Rewind 2018 becoming the most disliked video of all time is a YouTube Rewind moment all of its own.

Katy and Tom bought a boat 12 years ago. Today, they still live on that boat, which is fit with a secret bookcase passage and a large garden overlooking a field of wild horses. Oh, and they have two kids who have lived on the boat all their lives.
Katy says the boat saved their marriage. It also offers a very different perspective on how to live happily ever after in an pricy city like London.

Winding down another ridiculously successful year, Taylor Swift is bringing her big reputation to Netflix this December. For the lucky thousands who snagged tickets to see it in person, it’ll be a glittery walk down memory lane. But for those Swifties who didn’t catch the tour, it’ll finally mean Taylor for all.
Supported by artists Charli XCX, Camila Cabello, and Broods, Swift’s tour visited 7 countries and clinched the title of highest-grossing concert series in United States history. (We’re guessing the spectacular pyrotechnics and gigantic cobra named Karyn had something to do with that…)
So get those snake T-shirts ready. Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour is coming to Netflix Dec. 31 at 12:01am PST. Some might say: in the middle of the night, in the middle of my dreams…

It’s been more than three years since skateboard legend Tony Hawk has lent his name to a new game.
That changes now. Hawk is finally back, with Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam, a new mobile game launching on iOS and Android.
Though it’s not part of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise (his deal with Activision ended in 2015), Hawk says it was important for him to win over old fans looking for a hint of nostalgia with Skate Jam.
“I want this to appeal to fans of our original series, and to new kids that play games on their phones,” Hawk says.
For longtime fans, though, the bigger question might be whether it’s even still possible to recreate the magic that made the skateboarder a household name in the first place. Activision’s final game in the Pro Skater series was an epic disaster and the company killed the last attempt at a mobile title, Shred Session, before it was fully realized.
But that hasn’t diminished the desire for new games — something Hawk is well aware of. He lamented earlier in 2018 that he doesn’t have the ability to “to reboot servers or code games for newer systems on my own.”
Which brings us to Skate Jam. Maple Media, the developer behind it, had already created much of the game when the studio approached Hawk in 2017 about a collaboration. Hawk says he worked with the company to help improve the look and feel of the in-game tricks and to ensure the challenges felt authentic.
“I feel very strongly about keeping authenticity of skating in terms of the motion and the soundtrack and the locations and the challenges…. that is my biggest job in the process,” he says.

If you’ve played Maple Media’s other skateboarding game, Skateboard Party 3, Skate Jam will likely feel familiar. It uses similar controls, with players alternating between flip tricks, grabs, and grinds to rack up new high-scoring combos. (It appears that some of the skate parks in Skate jam are borrowed from Skateboard Party 3, though there have also been a number of new ones added to Skate Jam.)
At first glance, Skate Jam appears to be faithful to the original mechanics of THPS, while also adding in some newer elements. There are three main playing modes, which offer a mix online tournament-style play as well as offline levels to complete.
Career Mode, where players skate their way through different parks while unlocking new characters and gear along the way.
Skate Jam, where players compete against each other in online tournaments.
Free Skate, a mode where you can practice and perfect tricks across three different styles of skating
Hawk says he also hopes the in-game music will appeal to longtime fans, with tracks from “newer punk” bands and industrial electronic groups.
“The soundtrack is not as deep as the previous titles have been, but it’s, it’s just as diverse … it’s not lost on me that people expect a lot from the soundtrack,” he says.

Red carpets may have a reputation for being exclusive, glamorous affairs, but they aren’t always as exciting as they sound.
Ultimately it’s just a bunch of people in fancy clothes walking slowly along a road, right?
Well, not always. Not when Jason Momoa is involved.
Wednesday night marked the premiere of Aquaman in Los Angeles. And rather than just a simple, pose-for-photos-and-say-hi-to-fans type affair, this premiere had one key difference…
Yep: midway through the event, Jason Momoa suddenly stripped down to his vest to lead a haka, which included his two children and New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison, who plays his father in the movie and has Māori ancestors. In Māori culture, the haka is a traditional dance.
The performance lasted over two minutes, and involved the Hawaiian actor smashing his golden trident in half over his knee.

Yikes.

That’s certainly one way to make a red carpet more memorable.

Talk about the best of both worlds. One of our favourite Disney stars-turned-international pop stars is going to be in (one of) our favourite dark sci-fi anthology series.
No, it’s not Demi Lovato starring in The Twilight Zone (though we’d love to see that).
Miley Cyrus just confirmed that she’ll be in the next season of Netflix’s dystopian hit series Black Mirror.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer confirmed the casting on The Howard Stern Show.
“If you guess it, then I will shake my head yes, or no,” Cyrus told Stern when he asked her about whether or not she would be starring in an episode of the fifth season of Black Mirror.
Stern then informed the listeners that Cyrus had nodded her head, indicating “yes.” That’s as close as we’re going to get to getting confirmation from the horse’s mouth at this point. Mashable reached out to Netflix for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
No release date has been set for the fifth season of Black Mirror, but in a tweet from an Official Netflix Twitter account (screen grabbed here by Mirror) that was later deleted, Netflix had set Black Mirror Season 5 to premiere on December 28th 2018 with an episode entitled “Bandersnatch.” Netflix has not commented on the accidental leak, but dare we hope for a surprise release during the holidays?
What better way to brighten the festive season than with a show that makes you hate the world you live in?

If you’re a follower of Stephen King on Twitter, chances are you could hazard a pretty good guess as to how the horror master might feel about Trump’s wall.
Well, over the past couple of days, he’s made it pretty clear.
Following Wednesday’s fairly tense discussion over funding for the wall, King took to Twitter to offer some commentary.
Wait a minute, wait! Wasn’t…um, Mexico going to pay for Trump’s useless, just-tunnel-under-it wall?
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) December 12, 2018
24 hours later, King had obviously taken some more time to reflect. And this time, he really didn’t hold back.
Fuck your wall. Split that 5 billion between at-risk children who don’t have lunches and vets who can’t get proper medical and psychological treatment. Fuck your vanity project. Do something good for once.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) December 12, 2018
“Fuck your vanity project. Do something good for once.”
Can’t really be any clearer than that, can you?
